• Previously, when using EdgeOne's free certificates under the sole support of the automatic application mode, users were required to switch their domain's CNAME record to EdgeOne first before they could apply for a certificate. This made it impossible to ensure HTTPS capability before the CNAME switch and could not accommodate scenarios such as CNAME flattening or split-brain DNS;
• Some SaaS users expressed a need to apply for free wildcard certificates;
• When adding a large number of domains, each requiring HTTPS certificate configuration, it was necessary to wait for each domain's deployment to complete before configuring its certificate, slowing down the process.

Flexible Application Modes for Free Certificates: Improving Domain Configuration Efficiency

• Beyond the original automatic application mode, the free certificate service now supports DNS delegation verification and file-based verification. This flexibility caters to various user scenarios, including applying for wildcard certificates, applying in split-brain DNS configurations, applying when CNAME flattening is enabled, and applying before adding a CNAME record;
• Certificate configuration for a domain is now possible during its deployment phase, eliminating the need to wait for deployment to complete fully before configuring the certificate.

When requests are accelerated back to the origin via EdgeOne, if the origin domain is subject to DNS hijacking, the lack of origin identity verification may cause the request to return to a malicious origin, resulting in incorrect response content and impacting user business operations.

Custom Origin-pull Certificate Verification Method: Enhancing Origin Connection Reliability

Origin-pull certificate verification allows users to verify the origin's identity using HTTPS certificates during the SSL handshake phase. It only trusts origin certificates issued by user-specified CAs, ensuring that these certificates are valid. This guarantees that the origin connection established during the origin-pull connection request is secure and trustworthy, suitable for high-security scenarios such as finance and government. 

Benefits

Allows users to upload custom trusted CA certificates and verify origin certificates through specified CAs. It flexibly supports different origin certificate scenarios, including self-signed certificates.
