EdgeOne 2025 Q4 Product Updates: Major Upgrades in Free Certificate, Edge Functions and Pages
EdgeOne consistently adheres to user feedback, continuously iterating on product upgrades and researching advanced technical directions. This blog outlines the key innovations launched by EdgeOne in Q4, focusing on edge acceleration and edge developer platform.
Edge Acceleration
Certificate Management Challenges: Cumbersome Application Processes
- Previously, when using EdgeOne's free certificates under the sole support of the automatic application mode, users were required to switch their domain's CNAME record to EdgeOne first before they could apply for a certificate. This made it impossible to ensure HTTPS capability before the CNAME switch and could not accommodate scenarios such as CNAME flattening or split-brain DNS;
- Some SaaS users expressed a need to apply for free wildcard certificates;
- When adding a large number of domains, each requiring HTTPS certificate configuration, it was necessary to wait for each domain's deployment to complete before configuring its certificate, slowing down the process.
Flexible Application Modes for Free Certificates: Improving Domain Configuration Efficiency
- Beyond the original automatic application mode, the free certificate service now supports DNS delegation verification and file-based verification. This flexibility caters to various user scenarios, including applying for wildcard certificates, applying in split-brain DNS configurations, applying when CNAME flattening is enabled, and applying before adding a CNAME record;
- Certificate configuration for a domain is now possible during its deployment phase, eliminating the need to wait for deployment to complete fully before configuring the certificate.

Benefits
- Flexible Application Methods: Users can select the most appropriate free certificate application method based on their specific operational scenario, meeting diverse business needs;
- Wildcard Certificate Support: Sites using any access mode can apply for free wildcard certificates, fulfilling the requirements of wildcard domain onboarding scenarios.;
- Faster Deployment Experience: The ability to edit certificate configurations while a domain's status is "deploying" further accelerates the process of adding domains within the console.
Security Alert: DNS Hijacking During Origin Retrieval
When requests are accelerated back to the origin via EdgeOne, if the origin domain is subject to DNS hijacking, the lack of origin identity verification may cause the request to return to a malicious origin, resulting in incorrect response content and impacting user business operations.
Custom Origin-pull Certificate Verification Method: Enhancing Origin Connection Reliability
Origin-pull certificate verification allows users to verify the origin's identity using HTTPS certificates during the SSL handshake phase. It only trusts origin certificates issued by user-specified CAs, ensuring that these certificates are valid. This guarantees that the origin connection established during the origin-pull connection request is secure and trustworthy, suitable for high-security scenarios such as finance and government.

Benefits
Allows users to upload custom trusted CA certificates and verify origin certificates through specified CAs. It flexibly supports different origin certificate scenarios, including self-signed certificates.
Edge Developer Platform
Edge Functions: Lack of flexible control during deployment and release
- New Function Verification & Release: For newly developed or iterated Edge Functions (e.g., feature upgrades, logic optimization), traffic is split by weighted allocation (e.g., percentage, specific IP, or designated region) to enable small-scale verification, ensuring availability and compatibility while mitigating risks associated with a full-scale release;
- Seamless Cross-Function Migration (Zero Downtime Migration): Legacy functions are gradually migrated to new functions by triggering traffic switching in batches across different scopes (via weighted or geographical distribution), achieving a zero-perceptible smooth transition;
- Multi-Region Differential Deployment: Different geographical areas require executing differential logic (e.g., region-specific promotions, compliance adaptation). This is achieved by binding distinct functions to specific regions via geographical triggering rules.
Edge Functions Support Canary Release and Regionalized Deployment: Meeting Complex Scenario Requirements
Through trigger configurations, you can select the execution method – either by splitting traffic based on weights or by differentiating based on regions – during the function execution stage and complete the corresponding parameter configuration.
Benefits
- Precise Canary Release & Risk Isolation: Isolates the smallest verification unit in production, enabling unperceived trial runs of new functions and maximizing system stability;
- Zero Downtime Iteration: Achieves zero-perceptible switchovers between old and new functions, ensuring continuous service availability during upgrades;
- Intelligent Global Business Adaptation: Executes different functions based on geographical triggers, efficiently meeting the needs for local optimization and international compliance.
DevOps Challenge: Opaque Metrics and Usage Data
Since the beta launch of EdgeOne Pages, developers have appreciated its rapid deployment capabilities. However, they also expressed a need for clear, intuitive visibility into website traffic, performance metrics, and security status directly within the console. This transparency is crucial for understanding business operations and simplifying DevOps management .
EdgeOne Pages Official Version Released
Continuously iterating based on user feedback, the official version introduces multiple new capabilities beyond the beta version, including metrics and usage analytics, customizable security protection, mainstream SSR full-stack frameworks, one-click KV storage, and AI voice chatbots.
Furthermore, all users can activate a free version (permanently available) in the console with one click, and enjoy core benefits such as unlimited website security acceleration traffic and request quotas, platform-level security protection, and unified data monitoring.
EdgeOne remains committed to listening to user needs and continuously evolving to provide efficient, flexible support for your business.
