Customer Background

One of the top 10 leading search engines globally, designed to provide users with an intelligent and accurate search experience. By integrating AI technologies, image and video search, map navigation, translation, and more, it not only supports web information retrieval but also offers comprehensive knowledge graphs and interactive Q&A, serving users and enterprise customers worldwide.

Challenge

1)The customer was familiar with major international CDN platforms, while EdgeOne’s platform design differs significantly — particularly in concepts like site, the relationship between global settings and the rule engine, and the sequential logic within the rule engine. This created a learning curve during onboarding;

2)Without multiple rounds of fine-tuning and testing, EdgeOne’s key performance indicators showed notable gaps compared to competitors, raising concerns in the early evaluation phase;

3)The customer’s origin servers were located overseas, while a significant portion of end users resided in mainland China, leading to substantial challenges in back-to-origin performance and latency;

4)The customer had strict cross-border data compliance requirements, requiring careful architecture design and traffic routing to meet regulatory standards.

Winning Factor

The implementation of cross-border acceleration to address back-to-origin performance challenges was the critical factor in the overall success of the project. This solution significantly improved user experience for China-based users accessing content from overseas origin servers.

Through repeated fine-tuning and testing at the individual domain level, the project not only achieved overall performance benchmarks but also ensured that specific URLs met the customer’s key business performance indicators. This granular optimization approach played a vital role in meeting strict service-level expectations.
